Zoning

Land use and development is divided into three categories: industrial, residential, and commercial. The legislative method of regulating the development of land by the local governing body is called zoning. Controlling land use is essential in order to protect property values, preserve light and air, promote organized development, and maintain a town or city’s unique identity. Zoning also regulates the intensity of development in a particular jurisdiction.
