Employment Law
Employment law is a branch of civil law. Employment law governs the economic relationship between the employer and the employee, and both employers and employees are bound by contracts and statutory regulations on matters such as wages, hours of work, collective bargaining, health, and safety. Employment law also includes matters related to employment discrimination, occupational safety, sexual harassment, privacy, workers’ compensation, wrongful termination, pensions, employee benefits, and employment arbitration. Both state and federal laws shield employees from discrimination on the basis of sex, race, age, religion, color, disability, or national origin. Various federal laws that safeguard the interests of workers include Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Americans with Disabilities Act, The Age Discrimination in Employment Act, and the Family and Medical Leave Act. |
